CPU Load

The console is designed to run 'as-is' on any system you can buy today, for some older systems it may be necessary to adjust various options to reduce the CPU and GPU (graphics processing unit) load. Note: some of the features discussed below are only available with v14 build 695 or higher.

Graphics Quality

From the Program Options select Console, Defaults.

The Graphics Quality options are:

  • Default - a compromise between quality and CPU load, usually suitable for all systems.
  • Custom - adjust the individual drawing properties, an option originally added for developers and support personnel.
    • Compositing Mode - specifies how composited images are drawn.
    • Compositing Quality - the rendering quality of composited images.
    • Interpolation Mode - the way images (including the spectrum displays) are scaled.
    • Pixel Offset Mode - specifies how pixels are offset during rendering, use this option to specify either higher quality, slower rendering, or lower quality, faster rendering.
    • Smoothing Mode - the rendering quality, specifies whether lines, curves, and the edges of filled areas use smoothing.
    • Text Rendering Hint - the rendering mode for text, specifies whether text renders with antialiasing.

The load is also influenced by:

  • Display size,
  • Update speed - in Program Options select Scope + Waterfall, Scope Appearance. The Spectrum Speed controls the update rate of the spectrum, a faster speed consumes more resources.
  • Overlap size in the Scope options (click Scope in the toolbar below the frequency display).
